The EGK Orienteering World Cup in Neuchâtel is postponed to 2021

The EGK Orienteering World Cup in Neuchâtel is postponed by a year: thus, the worlds’ best orienteers will meet for a new date from 13 to 16 May 2021 in Neuchâtel. At the same time, over the long Ascension weekend in 2021, the multiday orienteering event, the EGK Swiss 5 Days, is also going to take place 12 – 16 May 2021.

The international orienteering federation (IOF) as well as the Swiss orienteering federation (Swiss Orienteering) are both supporting the new re-planning. The organizers have received the corresponding commitments.

The reasons for the postponement of the EGK O-World Cup and the EGK Swiss 5 Days Orienteering event in Neuchâtel are the current international situation around the spreading of the corona virus, appropriate measures of the authorities, and the corresponding decision by IOF. The latter announced on 17 March 2020 that, due to the current situation, all «major events» planned worldwide in the sport of orienteering by 31 May 2020 have either to be cancelled or postponed.

The measures taken by the authorities and IOF are jointly applied by the organizers. The health of the participants, the public, the volunteers and all people involved is highest priority to the organizers. Over 2’000 participants from 25 countries were expected in May of this year in Neuchâtel.

Both organizers of the EGK O-World Cup and the EGK Swiss 5 Days will provide information on detailed planning of the events in 2021 on their respective internet sites at the appropriate time.

See you in May 2021; please, stay healthy!
